Is Your Healing and Health Your Top Priority?

One of the stumbling blocks I see with talking to people about healing is they often say they do not have the time or resources to change their lives… to finally find healing and health.

So the question becomes, what are your priorities?

Do you want to live your best, healthiest and happiest, life… or do you want something else?

And I am not saying it isn’t possible to have it all, but for most of us, life is about making compromises and pivotal decisions – and your health and healing should be your highest priority, especially because the odds are extremely stacked against you.

We live in a world that has many systems that are not working for us – and we are in the worst health and healing crisis perhaps ever seen. If your health and healing are important to you, then you need to educate yourself.

What is not working?

  • We have a sickcare system, not a healthcare system, where doctors may be great at patching you up, but horrible at actually healing the root cause of illness. A sickcare system that pushes drugs over prevention and natural solutions.

  • We have a pharmaceutical industry with a mission of a pill for every ailment and “disorder,” whether a pill is needed or not. It’s an industry that also gouges on prices, with a clear focus on profits over people.

  • We have a food system that produces more fake foods than real foods… foods filled with vast amounts of an addictive drug (sugar), pesticide-laden grains, and toxic seed oils – all of which is directly related to our obesity crisis; another industry following profits over people.

  • We have an agricultural model that supports the industrial growing of foods, whether plants or animals, that includes the use of extremely dangerous pesticides, herbicides (Roundup/glyphosate), hormones, and antibiotics – while damaging our soil and climate through poor practices.

  • We have so-called health associations, such as the American Heart Association and the American Diabetes Association that take massive contributions from food and pharmaceutical companies (as well as other unlisted corporate donors), which sadly seeps into their making incorrect and even dangerous dietary recommendations.

  • We have the government, which still follows outdated research in promoting a food pyramid that is almost completely upside down, promoting refined sugar and refined carbs over healthy protein and fats.

  • We have media and streaming companies that run millions of ads – about $6 BILLION worth of advertising – that support the sickcare and pharmaceutical industry’s views of a pill for every ill.

The Results of Our Broken Systems

Looking around at the amount of sadness, anger, shame, fear, and loneliness that dominates the world, I would say healing is not a priority for many.

Looking around at the increases in obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, fatty liver disease, strokes, dementia and Alzheimer’s, and cancers, I would say healing is not a priority.

Looking around at the number of people relying on multiple prescription medications for preventable chronic physical conditions, I would say healing is not a priority for many.

Looking around at the number of people on prescription medications (and/or self-medicating) for depression, post-traumatic stress, and anxiety, I would say healing is not a priority.

Looking around at the number of people who are eating crappy and unhealthy foods – whether from the grocery store or from restaurants -- that are slowly poisoning them, I would say healing is not a priority for many.

What’s Holding You Back From Healing?

If you are on multiple pharmaceuticals and/or self-medicating, have you ever asked why? How much are you spending on these medications? What are they doing to your health? Did you know the vast majority of pharmaceutical drugs just help (sometimes barely help) with symptom management – and are not a cure? Many of these drugs are unnecessary – and could be weaned off with simple changes in diet and exercise. For other situations, there are wonderful holistic tools for healing.

If you love your fast foods, sugary desserts, and frozen pizzas, have you ever looked at the ingredients or wondered why you crave them so much? The food industry learned in the 1980s how to make almost all packaged goods addictive by upping the sugar content, including in crackers, cereals, breads, dressing, sauces, frozen meals… everything. Read the labels. We are often eating dessert for every meal.

But it’s not just sugar. Almost all restaurant foods and packaged goods also use seed oils, which were first developed for machinery – not people – so think about that the next time you are munching on your Chick-fil-A chicken and fries, or your Panda Express orange chicken, or your Dunkin’ donuts.

Costs vs Reality

One of the biggest excuses I hear is that people either don’t have the time or the money to buy healthy, real foods and create home-cooked meals like our parents, grandparents, etc.

Money. If you are buying toxic foods that are slowly killing you, eating fast foods or junk foods to “save” money… why? Are you putting your clothing, cars, cosmetics, and entertainment ahead of your food budget? Healthy, real foods HAVE to be your top priority now, or you will be paying for it later with expensive healthcare bills and an early and painful death.

Time. When we are not healed, time rules us. We are always looking for shortcuts – and packaged goods and fast foods are definitely timesavers. But, again, what is your priority? Taking that extra client meeting or your health and life? Most of the meals I make require no more than about an hour of prep and cooking time; some take much less time. Use simple recipes and/or devices like crockpots so have a warm meal waiting for you when you get home.

Final Thoughts on Making Healing a Priority

It’s your choice: Keep living a life that is superficial, stressed, and hazardous to your health, taking a pill for every ill… or start making changes now to find healing and improve your health and wellness.

Obviously, nothing is guaranteed in this life, but making changes to improve overall well-being is a step to living a better, healthier, and happier life.

Please do not wait for the government or other health agencies to take action. Our systems are broken and we need to take matters into our own hands. Isn’t your life and the lives of your loved ones worth that?
